Color blind people can have a hard time when working on a graphical project, for obvious reasons. This is where Colorblind Assistant comes in. Besides displaying RGB and HEX values for colors, like any other color picker, this particular application also displays the actual names of each color hue. It may not seem like much for most users, but it can be an invaluable tool for those who have difficulties distinguishing colors.

The application is absolutely free and it can be installed in no time. It works on Windows XP, Vista, Win 7 and Win 8 and it is known to work on older versions as well. Colorblind Assistant is lightweight, so it doesn't use too much disk space, RAM or processing power.

Colorblind Assistant provides a compact user interface, which can be used alongside any image editors or other applications. If you place the mouse cursor over any color on the screen, the application will display its red, green and blue values, its corresponding code, as well as the color's name. You can also find red, green and blue bar graphs, as well as brightness and saturation graphs.

The best part is that Colorblind Assistant is not limited to simple colors. It displays different names for all color hues, even if they are only slightly different. The application comes with a zoom pane as well, for accurate pixel detection. The naked eye may see only a certain color, like blue, but if you look at the zoom pane and move the mouse slowly, the application may display "soft blue" and "seagull blue", even if you don't see any difference.

Pros

Colorblind Assistant can accurately detect and name color hues, even if they look almost identical. It also displays the red green and blue values of each color, as well as the color's code.

Cons

You can't capture and save the targeted colors. With Colorblind Assistant, colorblindness won't be a barrier if you wish to design a website or work on other projects that involve colors.
